About Me
I work with mission-driven organizations to build ethical supply chains, credible certification systems, effective campaigns, and clear, honest storytelling.
For more than two decades, my work has spanned food and agriculture, fair trade, labor and farmworker justice, and global supply chains. I’ve founded and led organizations, built certification systems, designed large-scale campaigns, edited and published media with global reach, convened movements, and worked directly with farmers, workers, brands, retailers, certifiers, and advocates around the world.
At the core of my work is helping complex, values-driven efforts take form—whether that’s a program, a standard, a campaign, a convening, or a narrative that needs clarity, credibility, and care.
How My Work Has Taken Shape
Building Fair World Project and Movement Infrastructure
Much of my work has been shaped through Fair World Project, which I co-founded and led as Executive Director. Fair World Project became a nationally and internationally respected organization advancing fair trade, labor justice, and accountability in global supply chains.
Through this work, I built and led the organization from the ground up—developing strategy, fundraising and managing million-dollar annual budgets, hiring and managing staff and contractors, overseeing communications and media, and working closely with a board of directors. Fair World Project served as a hub for research, public education, campaigns, and movement coordination, and it grounded my work deeply in both advocacy and real-world implementation.
It was through Fair World Project that I led large-scale campaigns, produced influential reports and reference guides, convened global fair trade movement meetings, worked directly with farmers and worker organizations, and collaborated with ethical brands, retailers, certifiers, and policymakers.
Publishing, Media & Public Education
As part of building Fair World Project’s public voice, I created For A Better World magazine, which I founded and edited for ten years. The magazine grew to a distribution of 50,000 to 200,000 in print and downloaded worldwide and became a trusted platform for thoughtful, critical storytelling on fair trade, food systems, labor rights, and ethical supply chains.
I led the editorial vision, managed writers, oversaw production timelines and budgets, coordinated designers and printers, and built the distribution network. The magazine allowed me to translate complex systems into accessible narratives while maintaining integrity and depth.
I also co-founded and co-hosted the For A Better World podcast, extending that work into audio storytelling. In this role, I oversaw editorial direction, marketing strategy, and contractor management, and helped bring forward voices of farmers, workers, advocates, and movement leaders.
Certification, Standards & Accountability
Alongside this work, I focused deeply on certification systems and standards as tools for accountability. I built the social pillar of the Regenerative Organic Certification and co-founded the Regenerative Organic Alliance, and I authored and contributed to multiple reports and reference tools analyzing fair trade, labor justice, and ethical certification programs.
This work has included comparative label analysis, farmworker certification reviews, and international reference guides developed in collaboration with partners in Europe and the U.S., helping consumers, retail buyers, and advocates better understand what ethical claims mean in practice.
Campaigns, Markets & Collective Action
Through Fair World Project and partner organizations, I designed and led cause-based campaigns intended not only to raise awareness, but to shift purchasing behavior, strengthen ethical brands, and influence policy. For more than a decade, I led World Fair Trade Day cause promotions, engaging over 1,400 retailers nationwide and working closely with ethical brands and retail buyers.
These campaigns included in-store point-of-purchase materials, retailer education, and coordinated brand collaboration. Participating brands and buyers reported significant sales growth, in some cases tripling sales volume.
My campaign work has also addressed child labor, textile exploitation, farmer disempowerment, unfair trade rules, and human rights violations across global supply chains, including in the chocolate, dairy, and textile sectors.
Convenings, Events & Learning Journeys
Bringing people together has been a consistent part of my work. I’ve designed and executed conferences, workshops, and convenings focused on food, agriculture, fair trade, labor justice, and ethical business, including recurring workshops at Biofach, Provender Alliance, and Organicology.
I have convened global fair trade movement meetings and coordinated trade show participation and sponsorship programs, including six-figure sponsorship sales for recurring conferences.
I have also designed and led supply-chain learning journeys for leadership teams and buyers, including immersive experiences in textile supply chains in Peru; shea butter in Togo and Ghana; coconut in Sri Lanka; and palm oil in Ghana—helping participants understand systems through direct relationships and lived context.
Governance, Boards & Stewardship
I have served in board leadership roles—including Treasurer, Secretary, and Chair—for organizations such as Equal Exchange, Regenerative Organic Alliance, Grow Ahead, Zebras Unite, Fair Trade Federation, and Maya Traditions. This work has grounded me in governance, fiduciary responsibility, strategic planning, and long-term organizational stewardship.
Education & Training
My professional work is grounded in both lived experience and formal training.

Certification Development, Analysis and Reporting
I have extensive experience developing and analyzing social standards. I have produced reports and tools to help buyers and consumers understand the different standards. And I have conducted extensive training seminars for manufacturers and Grocery outlets on specific certifications for food systems.
Examples of my work:
Retailer Caused-Based Marketing
I have successfully developed cause-based marketing program in partnership with leading organic, fair trade brands and Natural products stores around the United States.
Manufacturers included: Alaffia, Alter Eco, Dr. Bronner's, Equal Exchange, Guayaki, Maggie's Organic, Theo Chocolate and Farmer Direct.
Examples of retailers included: all Whole Foods Markets, Sprouts, Natural CO-OP grocer members, INFRA Independent members, Pharmaca stores, and Natural Grocers.
These extensive programs included several components including marketing content for all retailers to use in newsletters and on social media platforms, recipes, t-shirts for retailer staff, stickers, posters, program video and travel contests for winners to visit a brand's partner community abroad. This helped to grow sales for all brands that participated and has helped cement the success and growth of each of the brands today.
Magazine Editor and Podcast Co-host
I was editor of For A Better World Magazine for 10 years. The magazine shared global stories of community development projects, grassroots organizing, climate change impacts and mitigation projects and food justice. It was distributed in over 1500 locations throughout the US and Canada with a print distribution of 200,000.
I was the host of the For A Better World podcast which had a global reach. The podcast is about fair trade and the farmer and worker-led movements that are fighting for equitable food and farming systems. The podcast provided a first-hand account from farmers, workers and activists involved along food supply chains of everyday items. The For A Better World podcast can be downloaded wherever people listen to podcasts such as Spotify, Apple, Google and Stitcher. The podcast was a finalist for the Discover Pods Award in the Best New Podcast and Best Food-Focused categories.
